EDUCATION SYSTEM

There are two frameworks that govern the higher education qualifications in UK. There is one that applies to Scotland and the other that applies to rest of UK. 

  • The Framework for Higher Education Qualifications of Degree Awarding Bodies in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (FHEQ).

  • The Framework for Qualifications of Higher Education Institutions in Scotland (FQHEIS).

These frameworks are the principal national reference points for academic standards in UK higher education. In the UK, students complete 13 years of education before they progress to university. Undergraduate study is three years and postgraduate is one year. 

Undergraduate / Bachelor Degree [ 3 to 4 Years ]

This includes First Degrees (honors and ordinary), Enhanced First Degrees, First Degrees obtained concurrently with a Diploma. First Degree students in Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine, interrupt their studies to complete one-year course of advanced studies in a related topic. 

Postgraduate / Master Degree [ 1 to 2 Years ]

This includes Doctorate, Masters (Research and Taught), Postgraduate Diplomas and Certificates as well as Professional Qualifications which usually require a First Degree as entry qualification.

 

FEE STRUCTURE

Tuition fee depends on where you choose to study and study program you get selected for. Undergrad education costs are around £8,000 – £30,000 every year for full-time courses. For postgraduate degrees, the normal education costs for worldwide understudies for full-time programs extend from £10,000 – £13,000 every year. For lab and research-based projects, normal yearly expenses remain at £14,000. For clinical degrees, the normal figure is £21,000.

 

INTAKES

The standard academic year starts in September or October and runs until June or July. The dates also differ for some courses. The typical deadline for applications for undergraduate university entry commencing in September is in the preceding January of that year. There’s also a smaller January intake that has limited undergraduate, master, PhD and foundation courses available. Private pathway providers also may offer additional start dates throughout the year.

 

VISA REQUIREMENT

The visa you need depends on your age and the study program. To be eligible for a Tier 4 student visa, you must:

  • Have an unconditional offer of a place on a course with a licensed Tier 4 sponsor.

  • Be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

  • Have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course.
